Here’s a little info about our charities:

Charity:water is a global nonprofit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries.  The majority of people needing clean and safe drinking water live in rural, isolated areas and spend hours everyday walking to gather water for their families.  Not only does walking for water keep kids out of school and takes up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the water often carries diseases and makes them sick.

Giving a community access to clean water can improve health, increase access to food, grow local economies and helps kids spend more time in school.

They work with local experts and community members to find the best sustainable solution in each place whether it’s a well, piped system, BioSand Filter, or a system of harvesting rainwater.  Their partners also coordinate sanitation and hygiene training and establish a local Water Committee to keep the water flowing.

Secondly, our local nonprofit organization the Alliance for the Great Lakes works to protect the Great Lakes for today and tomorrow.  They involve tens of thousands of people each year in advocacy, volunteering, education and research to ensure the Great Lakes are healthy and safe for all.

Some of the accomplishments for this great organization include championing federal ban on microbeads in personal care products like face wash and toothpaste, preventing the tiny plastic particles from entering the Great Lakes.

They also involved 15,000 volunteers in the Adopt-A-Beach program last year.  The volunteers cleaned up beaches, collected valuable data, and helped build pride in the Great Lakes.
